A New Subsample Time Delay Estimation Algorithm for LFM-Based Detection

This paper investigated a Subsample Time delay Estimation (STE) algorithm based on the amplitude of cross-correlation function to improve estimation accuracy. In this paper, rough time is applied traditional cross correlator, and fine achieved by approximating sampled sequence theoretical for linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal. Simulation results show that proposed outperforms existing methods can effectively accuracy with complexity comparable method. The Cramér-Rao Bound (CRB) derived, simulations demonstrate performance STE approach boundary. Eventually, four important parameters discussed in simulation explore impact Mean Squared Error (MSE).

This letter addresses the problem of on-line subsample time delay estimation of narrowband signals of known center frequency. A new form of the Lagrange interpolator lter is presented in this letter which is incorporated into the explicit time delay estimator (ETDE) method.
